Good Morning Everyone,
So it’s already been roughly two week since I last posted which definitely isn’t as consistent as I am aiming to be but things have been a little bit hectic in my personal life and I’m trying to adjust. My kids started daycare this past week and I also started school. We’ve all been trying to get use to this new schedule (no very successfully but we’re still getting the hang of it). I also have to work on some time management because with the added books I have to read for school and the homework I’ll be doing that means less time for just leisurely reading.
On the bright side I am an English major which means I get to read a lot of books that I would probably decide to read on my own. The books that I am currently reading for my classes are Home by Toni Morrison, The BreakBeat Poets: New American Poetry in the Age of Hip-Hop, and The Making of a Story: A Norton Guide to Creative Writing. So far I’ve been enjoying all the books. My favorite so far is Home but that’s probably because it’s the type of book I would have been most likely to pick up outside of being assigned the reading. The hardest to read is definitely The Making of a Story. It’s not so much that it’s boring but it is packed with A TON of information. I lose focus very easy in books like this. At the end of every chapter there are writing exercises that I find very helpful so that’s definitely a plus.
I recently finished reading A Curse So Dark and Lonely and let me tell you I am just…I don’t even know how to feel. I’ll be posting a review later on this week to go more in detail about my feelings but before I can write that review I need to collect my thoughts. I am eager to get my hands on A Heart So Fierce and Broken but I have a few other books I’m currently reading. Let me just say I was not expecting that ending to A Curse So Dark and Lonely but it’s fine…it’s fine. I’m recovering from the hangover it left me with.
Anyways…it only makes sense that I update you guys on the books I am currently reading seeing as this is a book blog and all! I’m currently making my way through
- The Care and Feeding of Ravenously Hungry Girls by Anissa Gray
- The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
- Tweet Cute by Emma Lord
- Writing the Fiction Series by Karen Weisner
- Plot & Structure by James Scott Bell
Yes I am aware that this puts me at like eight books I am currently reading but it’s fine…we’re fine…everything’s fine! I swear last year this time I would have never tried to read multiple books at a time but that’s what bookstagram does. It makes you crazy, haha. You start thinking you can do crazy things like read ten books at a time but hey, I’ve discovered that reading multiple books at a time can actually keep me from falling into a reading slump so I’ve actually grown to like doing it quite a bit.
Well, that’s enough for my rants for this week. Be on the lookout for some book reviews and other content this upcoming week! I’m still working on a regular posting schedule so I can’t promise exactly what day I’ll post but I will definitely post!
Stay positive,
BriAna
